Six years ago, while living in a foster home on the western outskirts of Chicago, the tears started to come down my face. My foster mom had just told me I would never amount to anything. I was thirteen years old and nearly defeated.
However, at the very moment I felt defeated, something amazing happened. I made a decision that the future was in my control. I stood up and refused to accept her words.
Today, I am at Morehouse College on an all-expenses paid scholarship. Not only do I have merit scholarship, but I also accumulated over one million dollars in financial aid. After ABC 7 Chicago did a story on my scholarship journey, I was coined “The Million Dollar Scholar.”
